Marketing executives today face a huge challenge: working out how their businesses can take best advantage of social media technologies. It is not a straightforward task.
Social networks like Twitter and Facebook clearly have the potential to provide business marketers with a powerful new way to reach and influence their customers. However, they were designed with consumers in mind and are not a natural business medium. Unmanaged implementations of social media can do (much) more harm than good to a company’s reputation. Creating a business social media strategy requires a lot of money, work, and content. Even then, how can companies increase the chance they will attract the customers they want, rather than the consumers they don’t?
