Are you thinking of using LinkedIn for social media marketing? Some believe that it’s just a place for job seekers and companies to connect, but more marketers are learning that LinkedIn is a great tool for business promotion.
LinkedIn Pages offer a number of features tailored for online marketing, including a Products and Services tab to showcase your wares. More than two million companies already have LinkedIn Pages and two new members join the social network every second.
LinkedIn Groups are another popular hangout amongst the professional crowd. The thing marketers often overlook is that these professionals using LinkedIn are also consumers. Groups are a fabulous way for you to attract new business and build your company’s reputation.
eWeek.com recently reported that 55% of small business owners who responded to their survey find LinkedIn an effective tool for promoting their business. Clearly, it is no longer just for connecting with potential employers or looking up job listings!
You will meet and reconnect with all kinds of people on LinkedIn; some may become customers, others employees, and others advocates for your brand. Digital strategist Nathan Kievman describes LinkedIn members as “the most influential, affluent, and educated audience.” Once your LinkedIn personal account and business Page are set up, it’s time to say hello to all of these fabulous people!
Saying hello isn’t too complicated for most of us. We probably do it several times a day. However, saying hello online seems to intimidate some. We want the tone to be just right. We don’t want to be too pushy. We want to reach the right people.
Start with the people you already know. Ask your first-level connections to introduce you to their first-level contacts. Your new contacts can see your LinkedIn Page from your profile, as demonstrated above.
Engage your LinkedIn audience by introducing yourself on your Page and in Groups you join. Be authentic, genuine, and succinct. In a few sentences, say hello and tell your audience who you are and what you do.
Explain why your business is on LinkedIn. Are you hoping to connect with people who are also interested in your niche? Perhaps you are interested in reading industry blogs and getting to know others in your space. Let people know your purpose and be real about it.
For even greater exposure, answer questions in LinkedIn Answers. Your tone should be friendly, helpful and professional as you say hello and offer a solution to another user’s question. What better way is there to introduce yourself than to solve a problem for the other person? This goes a long way to building your credibility and reputation on LinkedIn!
The key is in your authenticity. Saying hello is the beginning of a relationship; it’s not an opportunity to start hitting people with hard sales tactics. LinkedIn is a good place to connect with professional people from all walks of life who dress, eat, and shop just like the rest of us. It all starts with saying hello!
